Early detection and monitoring of severe forms of Chikungunya is now possible thanks to the quantification of three biological markers in the blood. A team of researchers from the Singapore Immunology Network (SIGN, A * STAR) and the Center of Disease Tan Tock Seng Hospital have allowed the characterization of severe forms of Chikungunya fever by measuring the concentrations of three biological markers.
This discovery will help to diagnose this more accurately and faster. These bio markers can potentially lead to the development of treatments to reduce the severity and progression of the disease. With recent cases in the Pacific region, Chikungunya fever has become a significant international threat to public health.
