Anti-abortion law in Nicaragua rises maternal deaths

aborto-noAn Amnesty International report notes that total abortion ban in Nicaragua that governed since July 2008 is contributing to an increase in maternal mortality in that country. As reported in the journal The Lancet (29 August), the law – that applies even in cases of rape, incest and pregnancies at risk of death – “denies women access to life-saving treatments and prevents the professional practice effective medical-health, “said Kate Gilmore, deputy general secretary of Amnesty International.
